(NASHVILLE), February 22, 2019 — As the 111th General Assembly of the State of Tennessee has quickly gotten underway, Senator John Stevens from the 24th Senate District looks forward to implementing elements of his “Freedom Agenda” into both his proposed legislation as well as his votes in committees and sessions.
Some key pieces of legislation proposed by the Senator from West Tennessee include:
- SB0400: A bill proposed that, if passed, eliminates the Court of Criminal Appeals from the post-conviction relief process in death penalty cases. Senator Stevens views this as imperative as each TN death penalty case is automatically reviewed by the TN Supreme Court regardless of the decisions made by the Court of Criminal Appeals. Furthermore, the Senator is adamant about fighting for the victims and the victims’ family and friends who are constitutionally warranted rapid conclusion of the case causing continued anguish and grief.
- SB0705: A bill proposed that, if passed, creates an enhanced concealed carry gun permit, as Senator Stevens is passionate about ensuring and defending the 2nd Amendment rights of every American.
- SB0713: A bill proposed that, if passed, provides significant sales tax exemptions for both agricultural trailers and vehicles. As the Senator is from Huntingdon, Tennessee, a small rural community, he feels it is imperative to promote agriculture in every way possible.
